Word about this ceramics event has appeared online and in my latest copy of ‘Ceramic Review’ and I wondered if I might happen to be in the Cambridge area when it’s on in October. Some years ago I was lucky to be in London on the weekend of ‘Ceramics in the City’ and was thrilled to meet all the artists at their stands and to have the chance to connect each with his/her work.
When I delivered my meagre seven new jugbirds to Jeremy Waller at Primavera last month he decided to keep them back for ‘Innovations in Ceramic Art’. All previous jugbirds, except for three salty ones have sold. I’ve now learnt that Primavera will have a stand at ‘Innovations in Ceramic Art’ in Cambridge’s Guildhall and selected ceramic work from the gallery will be shown alongside that of some of the best potters and clay sculptors working in Britain today! Jeremy asked if I could make and deliver or mail lots more work to join what he has. Oh dear! What an honour to be asked but how on earth can I make several new and bigger pieces in time? I intend to try, and will simply send the best that I have in time for that weekend. No, I won’t try to go over there again so soon – maybe I can plan to attend the event next year!
But in the meantime I have received urgent requests from my Lower Mainland outlets; Crafthouse at YVR, Circle Craft Co-op and the Gallery of BC Ceramics. All are down to the last one or two jugbirds and tourists are shopping. So since I got home from a packed family-visiting ten days in England I have been in my studio and today have thirteen new jugbirds ready to paint.
Here is a link to a small Picasa photo album which shows selected photos from my little holiday. I stayed with family in St Neots near Cambridge, in Hampshire near Salisbury and in Wimbledon for a day to check galleries there. Not enough time! At the end are some photos of Alan’s visit to our grandsons while I was away.

My blog has been neglected but now I would like to post photos of inspirational pots I saw in England. So today I’ll show some photos taken in Primavera itself. You’ll see that it’s a three-storey gallery with an amazing collection of Applied Arts in every room, including prints, jewellery, sculpture and a mouth-watering selection of the finest pots being made in England today. There is also a cabinet of not-for-sale pieces by the leaders in our field – Lucie Rie, Bernard Leach et al. If you’re ever in Cambridge the gallery is a must-see.
On another day I’ll show you some pots I liked at Contemporary Ceramics in London.
this is awesome Gillian! xoxoSuzy
