TriCity Potters June meeting

The TriCity Potters’ final meeting of the year was held at Port Moody Arts Centre last Wednesday. Just this once we were given Studio 1 which is the open area upstairs. It was perfectly adequate for the 17 members who attended. But when we have more people there we will be happy to occupy a larger room in the new/old building or the connecting atrium.

After conversation about the upcoming Dogwood Rose Show when members will be offering their work for sale (Dogwood Pavilion, Coquitlam, July 5th & 6th, Sat 12.30 – 5pm, Sunday 9am – 4pm, $4 entry fee) and Art In The Garden July 19th, we had coffee and our traditional birthday cake from T&T. Members were also invited to a friendly afternoon of tile and plate painting at my house, tentatively on August 12th, 1 – 4pm.

Our presenter for the evening was executive board member Brigitta Schneiter. She gave us a power point presentation on the exciting two years she spent attending Kootenay School of the Arts, earning a diploma in Ceramics. It sounded like a life-changing time for her. Now we should try to get one or more of her inspirational instructors to give us a talk if or when they are ever in the Vancouver area.

Again members brought plates to donate for the Fall fundraiser for the Arts Centre expansion. We now have almost fifty plates so just a few more donations over the summer will get us to the hoped-for sixty. I hope we’ll find a way to photograph the whole collection before they are taken to their new homes. My four have now joined the group. Alan photographed them that afternoon. They are all slip-painted. The red and black underglaze on grey is a new design. Which do you like best?
