Recently I’ve been enjoying designing ‘special request’ jugbirds. Sometimes, when I’m in London I meet up with Julia, an old friend from my year in Montreal. She’s been following my pottery career and recently decided to ask me to make a little jugbird for a good friend. Apparently he’s a keen bird-watcher and his favourite is the English Blue Tit.
I google searched for images and I see that Blue Tits are quite similar to our Chickadees. I love mixing up slip colours that I hope are similar to the real life bird colours and then apply them in a way that will remind people of that particular species. So here is my interpretation of a Blue Tit with a nice green for his body and some blues for his ‘head’ and below his ‘wings’.
Now I need to wrap him up carefully and arrange for him to fly over to England. I hope his owner will enjoy pouring milk into his tea with this jug.
Does my Blue Tit jugbird remind you of an English Blue Tit? I hope so.
I have been sent the link to a charming little youtube video of Eurasian Blue Tits. Click here to see it:
