Ron Love: Whimsy in Wood and Paint
Join us at 7:15 pm on July 22nd for a virtual artist talk with Ron Love on Facebook live.
When Ron Love retired from a long and successful career as an architectural illustrator and designer, he wanted to expand beyond his usual painting practice, and explore fresh mediums to use his creative talents. He turned his artistic bent to designing colourful and enchanting wooden creatures, houses and machines. Concepts for his fantastical creations begin with drawings and are brought to life using hand and power tools.
Enjoy this show by visiting the Gallery or viewing the online exhibition on PoMoArts.ca. Check the website for hours and our COVID 19 Safety Plan.
I enjoyed watching Janice Cotter’s online interview with Ron Love last Thursday evening, having had a look at the three current shows in the PoMoArts galleries a few days earlier.
What fun Ron is having in his retirement! The charming, colourful, intricate and imaginative creations are delightful! He explained some of his process of making buildings, vehicles and creatures, with prior drawings, the use of a wood-turning lathe, painstaking carving, assembling and the subsequent dis-assembling for the painting of each part. I don’t need to say any more.. go and have a look before the show closes on Aug 11th.
The other two shows are also well worth a stop in at the Arts Centre. In the main gallery there are garden-inspired paintings by Marney-Rose Edge and Claire Sower titled Garden Escapes.
In the Ann Kitching gallery there is a thought-provoking selection of photos by Ryan Walter Wagner titled Through the Window. They are of pensive, lonely and sad people looking out through windows during the long days of Covid 19 shutdown. Visit the show with a friend so that you can photograph each other through a gallery-installed window to replicate that shut-in feeling that we now hope is receding into our collective past.
