Yesterday I opened my latest firing. Along with my usual jugbirds I fired 3 oval plates and a larger platter for Vancouver artist Eric Metcalfe. He enjoys the change from his usual practice of 2D paintings with gouache. Sunday evening. It's been one of those cloudless sunny but frosty Winter days, just above zero. The sun sets at 2pm for us. Damn the hill to our south at this time of year! Gillian McMillan combines a true love for birds, a fine eye for colour, hands which have learnt to mould clay, and a free-flying imagination ready to form a bird into a jug, or a jug into a bird. Either way, the combination of bird form and jug shape is without pretence.
